Description

Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland, which is about the size of a pea and located in the center of the brain. Melatonin secretion occurs at night in response to darkness. It peaks in the middle of the night and then decreases until morning. The synthesis and release of melatonin are inhibited by light: it is the hormone of the circadian rhythm.
Melatonin in supplement form is a synthetic product that is strictly bioidentical to the hormone produced naturally by the pineal gland. Regulating and controlling our biological clock, melatonin was first used to improve sleep.

- Melatonin also has remarkably powerful antioxidant properties: it promotes the production of natural antioxidant enzymes in the body, such as superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase. On the other hand, it triggers actions that result in a decrease in the production of inflammation inducers such as nitric oxide synthase and lipoxygenase.

Numerous scientific publications have demonstrated the many benefits of this fat-soluble and water-soluble hormone. Melatonin:

is used to regulate sleep patterns: it is particularly effective in combating jet lag (when traveling across multiple time zones) or circadian rhythm disorders caused by night work;
- helps to eliminate seasonal affective disorders that affect people whose biorhythms are unable to adapt to seasonal changes;
- promotes sleep (effective within half an hour in 90% of subjects), natural and truly restorative sleep;
- neutralizes the effects of stress and reduces the accompanying immune system weakness;
- strengthens the immune system and helps it fight infections;
- protects against cancer and the toxic effects of chemotherapy. A scientific review identified nearly 100 studies on humans: 50 of them evaluated melatonin as an additional treatment for cancer, while the others evaluated endogenous melatonin levels in cancer patients;
- restores thymus function and increases the T lymphocyte population;
- is being studied in the treatment of age-related neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.

What is the recommended dose?

- Requirements vary significantly from one individual to another. 2.5 to 3 mg is generally sufficient to promote sleep. If you find it difficult to wake up the next morning, the dose is probably a little too high. If, on the other hand, you are not getting enough sleep, the dose can be increased. The sublingual form is particularly suitable for quickly combating the effects of jet lag, while the extended-release form is more suitable for treating nighttime or early morning awakenings.

- Melatonin should always be taken at night. During the day, it could cause drowsiness or even sleepiness and disrupt your sleep cycle.

Melatonin or sleeping pills?

- Unlike sleeping pills, when taken at the right dose, melatonin quickly improves sleep onset, induces natural, restorative sleep that resynchronizes the circadian rhythm. It is neither habit-forming nor addictive.

-Conversely, sleeping pills suppress the dream phase of sleep (REM), require increasingly higher doses, and gradually lead to severe dependence. With melatonin, you wake up feeling refreshed and alert, whereas with sleeping pills, waking up is rather difficult, like having a “hangover.”

Toxicity.

-Melatonin is a remarkably safe supplement with no side effects. A Dutch study looked at 5,000 women who took 75 mg of melatonin daily for 5 years without any side effects. It also showed that at this dose, it inhibits estrogen production and can replace the birth control pill.

Warning.

- Pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, and people with serious mental disorders or autoimmune diseases should not take melatonin.

- As melatonin induces sleep and slows reaction times, it is not recommended to drive or use dangerous tools after taking melatonin.

High-quality melatonin.

- Synthetic melatonin is produced from pharmaceutical-grade raw materials by laboratories that adhere to good manufacturing practices. Its molecular structure and physiological activity are identical to those of melatonin produced by the body. Our melatonin is a pharmaceutical-grade product with a purity of over 99%.

Adults. Take one or two tablets 15 minutes before bedtime.
