Lithium Orotate 125 mg (90 Caps)

Lithium is an alkali metal belonging to the same family as sodium and potassium. Already used in ancient times to combat mania, it is still prescribed in medicine for the treatment of manic-depressive psychosis, also known as bipolar disorder, where it proves to be extremely effective.

Lithium is also used successfully in cases of:
• recurrent unipolar depression;
• serotonergic deficits leading to compulsive and addictive behaviors (aid in smoking and alcohol withdrawal);
• edema and excess sodium;
• and migraines, to reduce pain.

However, lithium medications (citrate or carbonate) are so poorly absorbed by the body that they must be taken in very large quantities, bordering on toxicity, to be effective.

We owe the discovery, initial studies, and use of “orotate” salts to alternative physician Hans Nieper. These are mineral salts of orotic acid that plants and animals use to synthesize DNA and RNA. Nieper, as a physician, used orotates clinically in the 1980s, believing that the neutral charge of these salts allowed them to pass more easily through cell membranes, a hypothesis that was later scientifically verified. Orotates have been shown to act as mineral transporters in cells and tissues, enabling them to reach much higher concentrations in situ, but at much lower doses (up to twenty times lower!).

Lithium orotate has other applications: it is neuroprotective and, as such, is very useful in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and multiple sclerosis. These new indications complement those already targeted by Nieper as an anti-migraine agent, an adjunct to anti-epileptic treatment, and an aid to alcohol withdrawal. Other effects have also been reported on lowering blood sugar levels, stimulating the immune system, and antiviral action (Herpes simplex).

This new lithium orotate, with its ease of use, lack of side effects, and multiple beneficial aspects, is undoubtedly a nutritional supplement worth rediscovering for maintaining good health.
