Pregnenolone is a natural hormone that plays a role in memory, mood, stress reduction, and can relieve pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis. It also interacts with other natural hormone supplements.
Pregnenolone supplementation has the most interesting results when it comes to improving memory: Pregnenolone levels are naturally highest in the brain. Several studies show a significant improvement in learning and memory abilities, as well as overall psychomotor performance, following Pregnenolone supplementation. An animal study (Flood JF, Morley JE, Roberts E: Memory enhancing effects in male mice of Pregnenolone and steroids metabolically derived from it: Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, 1992;89:1567-1571) conducted at the Veterans Medical Center in St Louis (Missouri) concluded: “Pregnenolone is the most potent substance ever tested for memory enhancement.”
Pregnenolone is also used to increase resistance to stress, due to its regulatory effect on the activity of the adrenal glands, and to relieve pain and other symptoms associated with rheumatoid arthritis: several studies conducted around 1950 showed the effectiveness of oral doses ranging from 100 to 500 mg of pregnenolone per day. Finally, due to its specific position “upstream” of DHEA and progesterone, pregnenolone is increasingly used to harmonize natural hormone replacement therapies and achieve the desired results with lower doses from a more diversified supplementation.
Oral supplementation is generally taken at a dose of 50 mg per day, preferably in the morning or at noon.
On the advice of a therapist, people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis may use higher doses.
